How to crochet an oval elbow patch - free crochet pattern + video tutorial

Hi everyone! Here is a quick and easy tutorial on how to crochet an oval elbow patch!

Recently, I wanted to add elbow patches to a cardigan that I was designing and I couldn't find a crochet elbow patch tutorial anywhere! So I drew out oval on a piece of paper and adapted the basic oval shape until I matched the outline πŸ™‚ I'm really happy with how it turned out and I think elbow patches add a nice detail to any cardigan or sweater!

I've created a video tutorial and written pattern for these crochet ovals but feel free to experiment with different stitch counts and yarn to create different sizes! To create an oval elbow patch shape you basically have a row of stitches in between two halves of a circle. If you only want to elongate your elbow patch add more chains to the foundation chain. If you want your elbow patch to get longer and wider, increase the number of rounds you crochet. Just remember that like circles you add one additional DC in between the 2DC for each round. E.g. Round 2: 2DC in each st (around the half circle), Round 3: 2DC, DC, Round 4: 2DC, DC 2, Round 5: 2DC, DC3 etc.

Scroll down for the video tutorial and written pattern!
